In a recent development, Magistrate Mark Ngegba presiding over the Pademba Magistrate Court has ordered the remand of Abdulai Turay, who stands accused of deceitfully posing as a lecturer at Njala University.
Turay faces a total of five charges, including impersonation and fraudulent acquisition of funds.
The allegations against Turay involve three women who were pursuing scholarships for their postgraduate studies at Njala University.
According to law enforcement, between November of the previous year and January 2023, at Aberdeen-Lumley Beach in Freetown, Turay falsely claimed to hold a PhD from Njala University Towarma Campus and received NLe 25,000 from Hullaimatu Sillah. Sillah believed that this payment would secure her a postgraduate scholarship at the University’s Henry Street campus in Freetown.
Furthermore, police investigations have revealed that Turay similarly obtained NLe 5,000 from Eleen Paulina Sowa under the same false pretenses.
These actions have led to serious charges and legal consequences for the accused individual.
