The United States Embassy in Sierra Leone has announced the opening of the Diversity Visa Lottery for Sierra Leoneans looking to relocate to the United States of America.
In a post shared on social media, the Embassy stated that, :The 2026 Diversity Visa Program is now open!

Each year the United States Government grants 50,000 permanent resident cards to people from countries with historically low rates of immigration to the US.
Entries start from October 3, 2024, until Tuesday, November 8, 2024.
To qualify for the immigration programme, applicants must meet two basic entry requirements including that they must be born in a qualifying country to enter the DV2026 Green Card Lottery and have completed a US high school education or a foreign equivalent of US high school education.
This year’s (2025) Green Card Lottery is called the DV2026 Lottery. Winners of this year’s lottery will be entitled to enter the United States in 2026 on their new permanent resident card also popularly known as a green card.
People born in countries that sent more than 50,000 immigrants to the United States of America over the past five years are not allowed to enter the Diversity Visa Lottery.
Registration for entry into the lottery is done exclusively online by submitting Form DS-5501 on the DV program website and is free of charge.
Applicants who submit an entry will receive a confirmation number in their email. Only one entry per individual is permitted. Those who submit multiple entries will be disqualified.
The State Department reminds entrants that registration for the lottery is completely free of charge. The Department does not charge any fee, and that any website, individual or company claiming the Department charges a fee is trying to defraud entrants.
