Freetown, March 30, 2025 – A devastating building collapse at Cemetery Junction, Congress Road, has left one person dead and four others injured, the National Disaster Management Agency (NDMA) has confirmed.
The incident occurred on Saturday evening around 6:15 PM at No. 4 Congress Road. The collapsed one-storey building housed a daycare on the upper floor and a residential space below. At the time of the tragedy, members of the men’s union from Blessed Assurance International Bible Church were gathered for a home rehearsal ahead of their Thanksgiving Service.
Tragically, one of the attendees, identified as Saio Kamara, lost his life and has been taken to Rokupa Mortuary. Four others sustained injuries; two have since been discharged, while the remaining two—reported to be in critical condition—are receiving treatment at Connaught Hospital.
The NDMA, under the leadership of Director of Relief and Response Sinneh Mansaray, quickly dispatched a rapid response team to the scene.
Officials ensured the safe evacuation of all occupants, while security personnel were deployed to maintain order.
Authorities have urged residents to remain calm as investigations continue.
The NDMA assures the public that it is closely monitoring the situation and will provide further updates as more information becomes available.
