In a recent press conference held on July 29, 2024, at the Sierra Leone Police Headquarters in Freetown, Inspector Mohamed A. Y. Kanneh confirmed that an investigation into bomb manufacturing is currently underway.
Fourteen suspects are in custody as part of the ongoing inquiry.
Representing the Director of Crimes at the Criminal Investigations Department (CID), Kanneh detailed that among the detained individuals are three Lebanese nationals: Hussein Antar, Ibrahim Antar, and Jamal Antar.
The remaining seven suspects are Sierra Leonean citizens, identified as Samuel Marrah, Ibrahim Basiru Kamara, Suliaman Bah, Abdul Aziz Kamara, Allieu Kamara, Ahmed Bangura, and Alhaji Kamara.
Of the fourteen suspects interviewed, four are expected to face charges in court soon.
During the same briefing, Assistant Commissioner of Police Francis Brima Mende, the Regional Commander of Freetown West, reported that the area remains relatively calm. However, he noted that heavy rains have caused significant damage in the capital, particularly in the Murray Bah community, where reports indicate that 5 to 6 individuals have been affected.
Mende also mentioned that police checkpoints are being thoroughly managed. A recent operation in the Rokupa community resulted in the discovery of four magazines in a container. Additionally, last Friday, an individual named Amadu Jalloh was arrested, found in possession of nine jackets and two military uniforms.
