Freetown, Sierra Leone — President Julius Maada Bio has appointed Cyril Arnold Grant as the new Minister of Energy, a strategic move aimed at strengthening the country’s ongoing efforts to stabilize and expand its power sector.
The appointment, announced in a public notice, is subject to parliamentary approval.
Grant is set to take over the portfolio left vacant following the resignation of former Minister Alhaji Ibrahim Kanja Sesay during the nationwide energy supply challenges in 2024.
His selection signals renewed commitment by the government to address persistent electricity shortages and accelerate energy reforms.
“The General Public is hereby informed that it has pleased His Excellency the President to announce the following appointment subject to the approval of Parliament: Mr. Cyril Arnold Grant – Minister of Energy,” the notice reads.
If confirmed, Grant will be responsible for leading major energy infrastructure projects, fostering investment, and improving power generation and distribution across the country.
