FREETOWN — A man who escaped custody during the November 26, 2023 attempted coup has been sentenced to five years imprisonment for stealing a Bajaj motorbike valued at over Le33,000.
Magistrate Mustapha Brima Jah of Pademba Road Court No.1 delivered the ruling on Tuesday, following the guilty plea of convict Victor Koroma on one count of larceny, in violation of Section 2 of the Larceny Act of 1916.
Court records state that Koroma stole the motorbike—with registration number AXD 509—on August 20, 2025, at Lumley in Freetown. The vehicle belonged to one Abu Marrah and was reported missing before Koroma was later arrested.
During the proceedings, Koroma pleaded for mercy, telling the court he regretted his actions. But Magistrate Jah rejected the plea, stressing that the convict had a notable criminal history.
“This is not a first-time offender,” the magistrate said. “He was already serving an eight-year sentence imposed by the High Court before escaping during the prison break. He remained on the run until committing this latest offense.”
Magistrate Jah ordered that Koroma serve the five-year sentence at the Freetown Male Correctional Centre, in addition to completing the remainder of his previous eight-year term.
