Freetown, Sierra Leone – The leadership of Sierra Leone’s main opposition party, the All Peoples Congress (APC), is set to hold a significant meeting with a high-ranking joint delegation of international guarantors on Tuesday, October 15, 2024.
The meeting will take place at the APC Party Headquarters in Freetown, starting at 12:50 pm.
The international delegation will be led by Her Excellency Fatoumata Jallow-Tambajang, former Vice President of The Gambia, and will include representatives from prominent organizations such as the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), the African Union (AU), the United Nations Office for West Africa and the Sahel (UNOWAS), and the Commonwealth. This visit highlights the continued efforts of the international community to promote dialogue and safeguard political stability in Sierra Leone.
Ahead of the meeting, the APC leadership has formally requested the presence of security forces at their headquarters from 10:00 am, in a bid to ensure the safety of the international delegation and maintain a peaceful atmosphere for the discussions.
The meeting comes at a pivotal moment for Sierra Leone, as the nation seeks reconciliation and stability following the general elections earlier this year.
The agenda is expected to focus on key political issues, with hopes of advancing dialogue between the APC and the government, while international actors serve as neutral facilitators.
Although further details of the meeting’s agenda remain undisclosed, the high-profile nature of the delegation underscores the importance of the discussions for Sierra Leone’s political future.
