A devastating road accident near Gbaray Bridge, Yankasa Hill, in the early hours of Saturday, March 29, 2025, has claimed the lives of 13 people, leaving four others in critical condition.
Among the deceased are five men, six women, and two young boys.
Eyewitness Frances Thomas stated that both vehicles involved in the crash were linked to Makeni.
According to her, a Jeep traveling from Makeni and a Taxi heading in the same direction collided.
The injured survivors have been rushed to Makeni for urgent medical treatment, while the bodies of the deceased are being transported to Mabenseneh Hospital in Lunsar, Port Loko District.
Authorities have confirmed that six of the deceased have been identified, while efforts are ongoing to identify the remaining seven victims.
The Port Loko Regional Hospital has urged families to check on relatives who may have been traveling between Freetown and Makeni.
