A Sierra Leonean woman living in the United States has been reportedly stabbed to death in Northern Virginia, and a Maryland-based man believed to be her boyfriend has been arrested.
According to the Fairfax County Police Department in Virginia, 42-year-old Musa Kargbo has been charged with second-degree murder for the killing of 26-year-old Isha Koroma, who was originally from Sierra Leone but resided in Alexandria.
The incident occurred on the night of November 7, in the 3900 block of Terrace Drive in Annandale.
Police say they received a call about an unconscious woman lying in the street with severe injuries. When officers arrived, Koroma was found with stab wounds and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Preliminary investigations suggest that Kargbo left Maryland and traveled to Virginia before carrying out the attack. Police believe the act was not random, as the two reportedly knew each other. It is reported that the victim is the boyfriend of the accused
Kargbo was later arrested in Lanham, Maryland, by local police officers on Saturday morning. He is expected to be extradited to Virginia to face the murder charge.
The death has shocked many Sierra Leoneans in the diaspora, especially those living around the DMV (District of Columbia, Maryland, and Virginia) area.
Further investigations into the motive are ongoing, and authorities are urging anyone with additional information to come forward.
