Sherbro Island, 2 May 2024 – In a significant step towards realizing the ambitious Sherbro Island City project, Sherbro Alliance Partners (SAP) has announced the commencement of the first phase of feasibility studies.
This endeavor marks a crucial milestone in SAP’s commitment to constructing an eco-city on Sherbro Island, Sierra Leone, in collaboration with the Government of Sierra Leone.
“Sherbro Alliance Partners has gathered a team of world-class experts in various fields to develop a comprehensive master plan for Sherbro Island,” stated Siaka Stevens, co-founder of SAP. “Our aim is to not only foster economic growth but also to benefit the residents of Sherbro Island and all Sierra Leoneans.”
The consultant team, comprised of renowned firms such as Sasaki Associates, Buro Happold, Foster & Partners, Pegasys, Frost & Sullivan, MIC-Hub, PRDW, and Agritecture, recently embarked on a detailed reconnaissance mission to Sierra Leone.
During their visit, they surveyed both Freetown and Sherbro Island, documenting existing conditions and engaging with local communities and stakeholders.
“This project is about more than just urban development; it’s about creating a sustainable, resilient, and inclusive environment,” commented a spokesperson from Sasaki Associates, the firm leading the master planning efforts.
The comprehensive process outlined by SAP includes four phases of work over a 10-month period, culminating in the development of an integrated concept master plan for Sherbro Island. This plan aims to harness the island’s natural features while creating opportunities for investment and urban development.
Each firm within the consultant team brings unique expertise to the project. From infrastructure design and economic analysis to governance policies and transportation systems, every aspect is meticulously considered to ensure the project’s success.
“We are excited to be part of this visionary initiative that will shape the future of Sherbro Island,” remarked a representative from Foster & Partners.
The Sherbro Island City project, spearheaded by SAP, seeks to establish a pioneering hub for business, education, energy, agriculture, entertainment, and tourism. It aspires to blend history, culture, art, and sustainability to create a vibrant and inclusive community.
