Supporters of the All People’s Congress (APC) in Bo District on Friday turned out in large numbers to welcome Dr. Ibrahim Bangura as he formally declared his intention to contest for the party’s flagbearer position in 2026, ahead of Sierra Leone’s 2028 general elections.
The event featured cultural displays, jubilation, and strong solidarity from party loyalists across the southern region.
Addressing the gathering, Dr. Bangura highlighted his long-standing ties to the APC, recalling his role in reviving the APC student union at Fourah Bay College after the 1992 coup.
He said his bid for the flagbearer position is driven by a desire to restore discipline, respect for party structures, and unity within the party. While acknowledging leaders such as Dr. Samura Kamara, he warned that unresolved divisions could undermine the APC’s chances in 2028.
Dr. Bangura further stressed that the APC must see the South-East not as an add-on but as a key pillar for victory, while also urging cooperation between the APC and the ruling SLPP in the national interest.
Outlining his vision for Sierra Leone, he emphasized the need for reliable electricity, clean water, affordable food, quality education, improved roads, and stronger social services.
He ended by thanking southern supporters for their warm reception and called on party members to put aside differences and work together for the greater good.
