Jendema, Sierra Leone – August 25, 2025 – The National Revenue Authority (NRA) has commenced the construction of a modern Customs Border Control and Management facility at the Jendema crossing point on the Sierra Leone–Liberia border, in a bid to strengthen trade, security, and revenue mobilization.
Speaking at the groundbreaking ceremony, Commissioner General Jeneba J. Bangura described the initiative as a landmark step toward streamlining cross-border trade and enhancing customs operations.
“This facility will play a pivotal role in improving efficiency, facilitating business, and reinforcing cooperation between Sierra Leone and Liberia,” she noted, emphasizing that the project aligns with government’s vision for sustainable economic growth.
According to Bangura, the decision to embark on the project stems from the rapid expansion of business activities along the Liberia border and the need to widen the country’s revenue base.
The new facility will feature advanced systems, including digital tax administration through ASYCUDA WORLD, real-time border monitoring tools, and improved working spaces for customs officers and stakeholders.
Once completed, the project is expected to reduce clearance times, stimulate trade volumes, and improve revenue collection while boosting economic activity across the Mano River Union region.
Entirely funded by the NRA, the facility is projected to be completed within three months, signaling a major stride in modernizing Sierra Leone’s border infrastructure.
