In a diplomatic show of goodwill aimed at fostering stronger bilateral relations, the US Defense Attaché and Administrative Officer paid a courtesy visit to the Sierra Leone Ports Authority on August 3rd, 2023.
The visit held dual significance, as it congratulated the newly appointed General Manager, Mr. Yankuba Askia Bio, and Deputy General Manager, Mrs. Judith Boi Kosseh, while also introducing the new US Embassy Defense Team.
During the meeting, the US delegation extended warm congratulations to Mr. Bio and Mrs. Kosseh, recognizing the crucial role the Ports Authority plays in facilitating trade, economic growth, and regional connectivity.
Maritime Security (ISPS CODE), trade facilitation, and Ports Management were among the topics discussed during the visit.
Both parties highlighted the importance of collaboration in enhancing port operations, fortifying security measures, and addressing challenges related to piracy, illegal marine activities, and environmental concerns.
Mr. Yankuba Askia Bio, the General Manager, expressed his gratitude for the thoughtful gesture and emphasized the significance of maintaining good international relations to promote peace, stability, and common interests.
The visit also signaled a shared commitment to further economic cooperation and trade between the United States and Sierra Leone.
The proposed visit of a US Naval Ship to dock at the Port in September 2023 further strengthens this enduring relationship.
Overall, the visit served as a testament to the strong ties between the two nations, symbolizing their joint dedication to prosperity and security in the Maritime domain and beyond.
