The Sierra Leone Roads Authority (SLRA) has refuted rumors circulating on social media suggesting that pipes have been stolen from pedestrian rails along the Hillside Bypass Road.
In a statement released today, the SLRA clarified that the section in question is still under construction and that the pedestrian rails were recently added to enhance safety.
“The pedestrian rails along that section came about as additional works to increase safety. Hence, the need for additional pipes,” the statement explained.
The SLRA further assured the public that the contractor responsible for the project has already procured the necessary pipes and will install them as soon as they are delivered.
Addressing the rumors, the SLRA emphasized the potential harm such misinformation can cause.
“We note that such rumors can cause grave concern. Therefore, we want to reassure the general public of our commitment to providing safer roads for all,” the statement read.
The authority encouraged the public to rely on official information from the SLRA regarding the state of the nation’s roads.
