In a major development ahead of the Sierra Leone Football Association (SLFA) presidential election, the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) has ruled in favour of Ms Aminata Bangura, allowing her to contest the polls scheduled for 2 August 2025.
The ruling comes after Bangura was disqualified by the SLFA Ethics Committee, along with incumbent president Thomas Daddy Brima.
She challenged the decision at the international tribunal, which issued a decisive order on 31 July 2025, suspending the disqualification pending a full appeal hearing.
“The request for stay of execution filed by Ms Aminata Bangura on 24 July 2025… is granted,” the ruling stated, confirming that she is “declared eligible to stand in the presidential election of the Sierra Leone Football Association.”
The order was signed by Corinne Schmidhauser, President of the CAS Appeals Arbitration Division, and highlighted the critical role of fair and transparent legal procedures in sports administration.
CAS added that decisions regarding legal costs would be addressed in the final award or subsequent resolution of the appeal.
The verdict has intensified anticipation around the SLFA presidential race, which is now set to proceed with Bangura back in contention.
