Sierra Leone’s newly appointed Ambassador to the Republic of Guinea, His Excellency Alhaji Mohamed Foday Yumkella, has officially presented his Letters of Credence to President General Mamady Doumbouya at a ceremony held at the President’s Lodge in Conakry on 10th October 2025.
Conveying best wishes from President Rtd. Brigadier Dr. Julius Maada Bio, Ambassador Yumkella reaffirmed Sierra Leone’s commitment to strengthening long-standing ties with Guinea — ties he described as not just diplomatic but rooted in kinship, culture and history.
In his remarks, Ambassador Yumkella recalled Guinea’s pivotal support in restoring peace to Sierra Leone and emphasized the deep interwoven familial and ethnic connections between the two nations.
He expressed President Bio’s commitment to advancing economic diplomacy and combating corruption to foster a conducive environment for trade and cooperation.
President Doumbouya, who notably held part of the discussion with the Ambassador in the shared Susu language, welcomed him warmly and acknowledged President Bio as the first leader to visit Conakry following his assumption of office.
Speaking to the state broadcaster after the ceremony, Ambassador Yumkella reiterated that the bond between Sierra Leone and Guinea was so profound that it was often difficult to distinguish between their citizens.
He pledged to rely on Guinea’s continued support as he embarks on his diplomatic mission.
He was accompanied by his wife, Deputy Ambassador Madam Fatmata Sawaneh, Head of Chancery Madam Rakie Marcarthy, and Information and Press Attaché Mr. Umaru Sitta Turay.
