Freetown, Sierra Leone – The Training Directorate of the Sierra Leone Police (SLP) has taken a significant step forward in its quest for capacity building, as it held separate meetings with ambassadors of the Chinese and Egyptian Embassies in Sierra Leone.
Ag. Director of Training, ACP Esther Mary Kaintor-Dukuray, accompanied by the Head of Training, DSP Alpha Kamara, met with the ambassadors on Thursday, June 27, 2024. The meetings aimed to boost cooperation and partnership between the SLP and the two countries on training and capacity building initiatives.
The SLP’s Training Director expressed profound appreciation to the ambassadors for the training opportunities provided to the police, citing improved performance by officers who have benefited from these trainings. The diplomats responded with enthusiasm, stating that they facilitate trainings for the police because they believe professionalism requires continuous training and collective responsibility.
The ambassadors also touched on the long-standing diplomatic ties between Sierra Leone and their respective countries, emphasizing the importance of strengthening internal security in Sierra Leone. They proposed a strategic partnership between the SLP and police organizations in China and Egypt, which they believed would lead to mutual benefits.
The Chinese Minister-Counsellor of the Chinese Embassy, Mr. Zhangdianbin, reiterated his embassy’s willingness to support the SLP following established protocols. Similarly, H.E. Sheriff Ahmed Mohamed Rifaat, Ambassador of the Arab Republic of Egypt, echoed his government’s willingness to support the SLP through proper channels.
As a result of these commitments, the SLP will benefit from additional capacity building programs tailored to its operational needs through a proposed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between both diplomats.
The meetings concluded with letters of appreciation tendered by Mrs. Dukuray on behalf of the Inspector-General of Police and management for the support provided by these partners in improving professional service delivery through capacity building initiatives.
The SLP’s efforts to enhance its capacity will undoubtedly have a positive impact on the country’s internal security, demonstrating its commitment to providing effective and efficient services to the public.
