In a significant development, the Office of the Clerk of Parliament has issued a public notice to current and former Members of Parliament, urging them to surrender outdated vehicular number plates.
The notice is stated as follows:
1. Concerns raised reveal that some individuals persist in displaying the now obsolete Old Number Plates for MPs on their vehicles.
2. The Clerk of Parliament had previously issued a directive for MPs to relinquish these outdated plates.
3. Effective today, 11/12/2023, MPs have been granted a 72-hour window to submit the Old Vehicular Number Plates to the Office of the Clerk of Parliament.
4. Exclusive authorization is granted for the use of the current Vehicular Number Plates designated for Members of Parliament.
5. MPs failing to comply with the surrender directive will face public exposure, as their names will be published for the attention of the Inspector General of Police.
6. In response to non-compliance, the Inspector General of Police and SLRSA (Sierra Leone Road Safety Authority) have been instructed to take immediate action, including the arrest and prosecution of individuals still utilizing the outdated plates.
