Freetown, Sierra Leone – The Government of Sierra Leone has officially declared Friday, 18th April 2025 (Good Friday), and Monday, 21st April 2025 (Easter Monday), as public holidays to be observed nationwide.
This announcement aligns with the country’s annual observance of the Easter season, a significant period for Christians commemorating the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. Good Friday marks the crucifixion of Jesus, while Easter Monday is traditionally a day of rest and celebration following Easter Sunday.
In Sierra Leone, Easter is widely celebrated with church services, family gatherings, community events, and moments of reflection.
Both Good Friday and Easter Monday are recognized as public holidays, allowing citizens time to participate in religious and cultural activities.
Government offices, schools, and most businesses are expected to close in observance of these holidays.
The public is encouraged to celebrate peacefully and respectfully during the Easter period.
