In a formal statement shared on social media platform X, Samura Kamara, the leader of Sierra Leone’s main opposition party, the All People’s Congress (APC), expressed deep concern over recent developments in the country’s political arena.
Kamara emphasized the urgency of addressing the situation, particularly amidst calls from the Sierra Leonean populace for a swift return to normalcy.
He highlighted a disturbing trend involving the frequent presence of heavily armed military and police personnel at the residences of key APC members.
“These actions, seemingly conducted under the guise of search missions, lack clear legal mandates and raise serious questions about the respect for rule of law and due process,” Kamara stated in his message.
The opposition leader cited specific incidents, including unauthorized visits to the homes of Hon. Kemoh Sesay and Rtd Major Alfred Pallo Conteh, as examples of what he described as “unwarranted intrusion” and a direct threat to the privacy and safety of individuals associated with the APC.
Kamara condemned these actions as an affront to democratic principles and called for an immediate cessation of such practices. He urged local authorities to adhere to legal protocols and ensure proper judicial oversight in any search or investigation conducted.
Furthermore, Kamara appealed to international bodies and human rights organizations to closely monitor the situation and exert pressure on government authorities to uphold democratic values and respect human rights.
