Freetown – The administration of Fourah Bay College has announced a sweeping ban on all student club activities following two days of violent disturbances that disrupted academic life on campus.
In a formal notice issued by the University of Sierra Leone, authorities have prohibited all gatherings, processions, chanting, and organized group events linked to student clubs with immediate effect. The directive aims to restore calm and safeguard the safety of students and staff after unrest on April 30 and May 1.
Deputy Registrar Brima Bah signed the notice, which cited the recent violence as the primary reason for the tightened restrictions. Campus security has been significantly ramped up, with personnel from the Sierra Leone Police deployed to maintain order while investigations continue to identify the individuals responsible for the disturbances.
“The university will not tolerate any breach of this directive,” the statement warned, adding that violators will face strict disciplinary measures.
Students have been strongly urged to cooperate with authorities to help return the historic institution to a peaceful and conducive learning environment.
The ban comes at a critical time for Fourah Bay College, one of Sierra Leone’s oldest and most prestigious higher education institutions, as it seeks to prevent further escalation and refocus attention on academic activities. No official casualty figures or detailed accounts of the violence have been released so far.
Further updates are expected as investigations progress.
