Freetown, Sierra Leone – May 31, 2026 – The Sierra Leone Football Association (SLFA) has officially appointed John Edward Keister as the Caretaker Head Coach of the senior national men’s team, Leone Stars.
In a press release issued on Sunday, the SLFA Executive Committee named the current Technical Director to lead the team on an interim basis while the search for a substantive Head Coach continues.
Keister, widely regarded as one of Sierra Leone’s most experienced football tacticians, will be supported by a two-man assistant coaching team: Alhaji Foray as Assistant Coach I and Mohamed Lamin Kamara as Assistant Coach II.
The appointment comes ahead of Leone Stars’ upcoming FIFA international friendly matches against Liberia during the June international window. Sierra Leone will host the Lone Star of Liberia on Saturday, June 6, 2026, at the Southern Arena in Bo City. The reverse fixture will take place on Tuesday, June 9, 2026, at the SKD Stadium in Monrovia.
The SLFA expressed strong confidence in the newly formed coaching trio, highlighting Keister’s technical expertise and leadership qualities as the team prepares for these important international assignments.
“The Executive Committee… expressed confidence in the technical expertise and leadership of the coaching trio,” the release stated.
The move is seen as a pragmatic step to ensure stability and continuity for the national team during the transition period.
