In a significant development on December 7th, 2023, President Julius Maada Bio of Sierra Leone has appointed Hon. Justice Nicholas Browne-Marke as the acting Chief Justice of Sierra Leone.
The appointment is made in light of the incumbent Chief Justice Desmond Babatunde Edwards taking a leave of absence.
President Bio, in the official Letter of Appointment, conveyed, “I write to inform you that in the absence of the Hon. Chief Justice (who has proceeded on leave), it has pleased His Excellency the President to appoint you as Chief Justice of the Republic of Sierra Leone, in an acting capacity.”
This strategic decision aims to guarantee the uninterrupted functionality of the judiciary, emphasizing its crucial role in the administration of justice.
