Vice President Dr. Mohamed Juldeh Jalloh has described the relaunch of Sierra Leone’s Government Printing Department as a major step in the country’s institutional transformation and industrial development agenda.
Speaking during the official reopening ceremony held on Friday, 29 May 2026, at the Government Printing Department in New England Ville, the Vice President said the initiative represents Government’s commitment to rebuilding state institutions and promoting national self-reliance.
The event attracted government officials, development partners, and other stakeholders who witnessed the unveiling of the newly modernized printing facility.
Addressing attendees, Dr. Juldeh Jalloh said the occasion was more than the reopening of a government department, noting that it symbolized the restoration of national pride and the modernization of state institutions.
He stated that Government’s broader development vision focuses on productivity, innovation, and reducing dependency on foreign services.
The Government Printing Department, which had reportedly experienced years of decline, has now been upgraded into a modern industrial printing hub through a partnership between the Government of Sierra Leone and the DeMing Group of Companies.
The upgraded facility is equipped with advanced digital and offset printing machines, post-processing systems, exhibition and training spaces, office facilities, and a modern showroom.
According to the Vice President, the project has already attracted more than US$2 million in investment, with an additional US$5 million expected within the next two years.
Dr. Juldeh Jalloh said the transformation of the institution is expected to reduce Sierra Leone’s dependence on overseas printing services, improve the security of sensitive national documents, create employment opportunities, and support the “Made in Sierra Leone” initiative.
He further disclosed that Government intends for the institution to become financially self-sustaining before the end of 2026, adding that the department is expected to generate revenue and contribute taxes to support the national economy.
The Vice President also commended the Ministry of Information and Civic Education, the Government Printer, the Sierra Leone Embassy in China, and other partners for their contributions toward the successful transformation of the institution.
The relaunch forms part of Government’s wider efforts to modernize public institutions, diversify the economy, and position Sierra Leone as a regional centre for innovation, industrialization, and printing services.
