In a landmark event today, Sierra Leone’s President Julius Maada Bio joined forces with His Excellency President William Ruto of Kenya, who is also hosting the Africa Climate Summit 2023, to launch the Financing Locally Led Climate Action (FLLoCA) Programme.
This initiative, led by the Kenyan Government, is set to bring transformative change to the lives of millions of Kenyans and serve as a blueprint for climate adaptation efforts over the next decade.
The FLLoCA Programme represents a significant milestone in the fight against climate change. By reducing vulnerability at the community level and fortifying resilience to climate impacts, the Kenyan Government has set an example that other African nations are encouraged to follow. This approach emphasizes tailored, country-specific solutions to the pressing challenges posed by climate change across the continent.
Speaking at the launch event, President Julius Maada Bio expressed Sierra Leone’s commitment to collaborating with Kenya and its development partners to replicate this initiative nationwide. The goal is to enhance resilience and climate adaptation in Sierra Leone’s 446 wards, mirroring the commendable efforts undertaken by Kenya.
This initiative’s success hinges on South-South cooperation, exemplifying a collaborative learning model among African nations.
President Bio expressed optimism that this approach would expedite the development of various climate programs and facilitate the attraction of significant private investment, ultimately accelerating progress in combating climate change across the continent.
The launch of the FLLoCA Programme marks a pivotal moment in Africa’s collective effort to combat climate change and underscores the importance of collaborative, locally driven solutions.
