Freetown, 8 October 2024 — Sierra Leone’s President Julius Maada Bio of Sierra Leone held a constructive conversation with His Majesty King Charles III, the Head of the Commonwealth, ahead of the upcoming Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) set to take place in Apia, Samoa, from October 21 to 26, 2024.
In a statement posted on social media, President Bio expressed optimism following the call.
“Today, I had a productive conversation with His Majesty King Charles III… I look forward to a fruitful participation and a successful summit in Samoa,” he said.
The 2024 CHOGM will be the first held in a Small Island Developing State from the Blue Pacific, marking a significant milestone for Samoa. The biennial meeting rotates among member countries, with Rwanda having hosted the last CHOGM in 2022.
The summit provides a platform for Commonwealth leaders to discuss pressing global issues and strengthen cooperation across the 56 member states.
