Freetown, August 4, 2025 — Paran Umar Tarawally has officially resigned from his position as Clerk of Parliament, following his recent election as National Secretary General of the Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP).
Tarawally confirmed his resignation took effect on August 1, 2025, fulfilling a key campaign promise to fully commit himself to the party’s leadership.
His departure marks the end of his tenure in Parliament and the beginning of a new chapter at the helm of the SLPP’s national secretariat.
In a statement released after the party’s national convention, Tarawally thanked SLPP delegates and members for entrusting him with the role, promising to lead with integrity and commitment over the next three years.
He also expressed deep gratitude to President Julius Maada Bio for his guidance and acknowledged the support of senior government officials, party stakeholders, and grassroots supporters across the country and the diaspora.
Tarawally reserved special recognition for First Lady Fatima Bio and the campaign team known as TEAM EBEMA, whose efforts, he said, were instrumental to his victory.
His resignation clears the way for a new appointment in Parliament, while signaling his full transition into party leadership at a time when the SLPP is looking to consolidate its internal structures ahead of future elections.
