Monrovia, March 20, 2025 – The Liberia Telecommunications Authority (LTA) has announced the removal of surcharges on international calls between Liberia and two West African nations, in line with ECOWAS’ push for regional integration.
According to the LTA, surcharges on calls between Liberia and Sierra Leone will be eliminated on May 2, 2025, while those on calls between Liberia and The Gambia will end on July 1, 2025.
This decision aligns with ECOWAS Regulation C/REG 21/12/17, which promotes free roaming and reduced communication costs within the region.
The move follows the signing of Memoranda of Understanding (MOUs) in January 2025 between the LTA, Sierra Leone’s National Communications Authority (NatCA), and The Gambia’s Public Utility Regulatory Authority (PURA).
With the removal of these surcharges, citizens and businesses will benefit from lower international call rates, fostering stronger trade, communication, and mobility across ECOWAS member states.
The initiative is expected to enhance economic ties and regional cooperation, reinforcing the goal of seamless connectivity across West Africa.
