KISSI TENG, KAILAHUN – The land dispute that stalled construction of the UNDP-funded security border post at Penguibengu in Kissi Teng Chiefdom, Kailahun District, has been settled and work is expected to resume.
The post is being built by SEND-Sierra Leone under the UNDP-funded Security and Human Rights Project.
Work stopped after a member of the land-owning family petitioned UNDP, claiming the land was taken without family consent. UNDP in response gave the implementers 24 hours to resolve the issue or demolish the structure.
The matter was resolved on Friday, 19th September 2026, following intervention by key stakeholders including the Minister of Internal Affairs, the Member of Parliament for Kissi Teng, the Paramount Chief of Kissi Teng, the Office of National Security (ONS) and the Executive Director of SEND-SL.
During the meeting, all legal documents for the land were signed and witnessed by community stakeholders. The land-owning family member who raised the complaint has agreed to formally write to UNDP to confirm that the issue has been amicably settled.
With the settlement now in place, construction at the Penguibengu border crossing point is set to resume.
