FREETOWN – Statistics Sierra Leone (Stats SL) has warned the general public about a fake recruitment portal for the 2026 Population and Housing Census that is currently circulating on social media.
In a public notice issued Monday, Stats SL said while it has officially opened recruitment for Census field staff, a link being widely shared on WhatsApp and Facebook is not from the institution.

Stats SL said the public should not use, click or share the link.
According to Stats SL, the only official recruitment portal for the 2026 Census is:
https://recruit.statistics.sl
The agency reminded applicants that the official recruitment process is completely free and does not require any payment at any stage.
It cautioned that any recruitment message that asks applicants to pay money to apply, to share recruitment links with friends or WhatsApp groups, to forward an application form to 5 WhatsApp groups or 15 friends before submitting it, or to follow a WhatsApp-sharing process before being redirected to a submission page, is fraudulent.
“Any recruitment message or portal containing such instructions is fraudulent and should NOT be followed,” the notice stated.
Stats SL advised the public to protect their personal information and to rely only on information published through its official website and verified social media handles.
The agency stressed that recruitment is FREE and no payment is required at any stage of the application.
The 2026 Population and Housing Census is being conducted under the theme: _Census 2026 – Leh Den Kont You Ooh_.
