Freetown, 30 July 2025 — The Sierra Leone Road Safety Authority (SLRSA) has issued a public notice announcing several new measures aimed at improving road safety and streamlining service delivery across the country.
Effective Monday, 4 August 2025, the Authority will deploy its Mobile Station to enhance accessibility and efficiency in delivering road-related services. As part of this initiative, payments will now be processed via the WANGOV platform, with WANGOV staff present on-site to facilitate transactions.
In a bid to enforce compliance with national traffic laws, the Authority will begin implementing Regulation 55(6) of the Road Traffic Regulations, 2011, which mandates that all vehicles be equipped with essential safety items, including a First Aid Kit. This requirement is now compulsory for all newly registered vehicles, with kits available for purchase through the Authority.
Beginning 1 September 2025, the SLRSA will also enforce Regulation 2(1) requiring that all motor vehicle registrants provide proof of ownership from the country of origin as part of the registration process.
Additionally, in line with Section 70 of the Road Traffic Act, 2007 the Authority is rolling out mandatory Motor Vehicle Testing (MOT) to assess vehicle roadworthiness. This service will be offered at no additional cost and is a prerequisite for licensing.
All container-bearing vehicles operating from the Queen Elizabeth II Quay must also meet minimum road safety standards before being allowed to travel on public routes.
Vehicle owners are strongly advised to ensure full compliance with these measures by 1 October 2025. The Authority warns that non-compliant vehicles will face enforcement actions.
“Ignorance of the law is no excuse. Road safety is a shared responsibility,” the notice emphasized.
