Freetown, Sierra Leone – April 5, 2025 – In a remarkable demonstration of international collaboration, the International Policing Organisation’s National Central Bureau (NCB) in Freetown has successfully arrested two Guinean suspects connected to an alleged child theft case.
The suspects, who fled to Sierra Leone after the incident occurred in Guinea earlier in March, were apprehended and subsequently handed over to authorities in Guinea on Thursday 3 April 2025..
The operation was made possible through a partnership between the Sierra Leone Police and the Guinean Interpol team. The suspects were transferred by the Interpol NCB Freetown at the Gbalamuya Work Station, facilitating a seamless cross-border operation.
Leading the handover was Detective Inspector Stella Sarah Kargbo, along with Detective Police Constable Mohamed Mansaray and Police Constable Joseph. They meticulously ensured that all required documentation was completed to facilitate a smooth transfer. Representatives from Interpol’s National Central Bureau in Conakry were present to receive the suspects, while a member of the Kambia Division Local Unit Command was on-site to obtain copies of the necessary documentation for further processing.
In a positive development, the child victim of the alleged theft has been safely reunited with their parents following a thorough medical evaluation, which confirmed their well-being.
Officials from Interpol NCB Conakry commended the cooperation exhibited by their Sierra Leonean counterparts, highlighting the crucial role of cross-border collaboration in combating crime and protecting vulnerable populations.
The operation concluded with a group photograph, symbolizing the successful partnership between law enforcement agencies from both nations.
