Freetown, Sierra Leone – First Lady Fatima Maada Bio has dismissed reports of a rift between herself and President Julius Maada Bio following the recently concluded Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP) National Delegates Conference, stressing that her loyalty to both her husband and the party remains unwavering.
Speaking in a statement titled “Beyond the Convention: My Loyalty, My Mission, My Truth”, the First Lady said her involvement in politics has always been driven by a clear mission — to support the President’s leadership and ensure the SLPP retains power after the 2028 elections.
“I have crossed rivers, climbed mountains, and braved jungles — both the political kind and the human kind — to remain faithful to my mission,” she said.
Mrs. Bio described any perceived disagreements during the convention over the party’s chairmanship as “an isolated matter,” adding that such differences were a normal part of a functioning democracy.
“The Presidency is not shaken by the passing winds of conference politics,” she emphasized.
Rejecting claims that her influence within the party has diminished, the First Lady reaffirmed her role as “the de facto and meritorious First Lady” and vowed to remain on the frontlines when needed, and in the background when necessary, “but always in service to my husband, my party, and my country.”
She concluded by calling for unity, noting, “When the dust of the convention settles, we will still have a nation to build, an election to win, and a legacy to protect.”
