Co-chair of the Electoral Systems Reforms Committee, Dr. Kaifala Marah, leading the All Peoples Congress (APC) party’s representatives in the Committee, has underscored what he referred to as “continuous challenges” faced with in implementing Resolution 4 of the Communique that deals with the release of detained individuals, discontinuation of politically motivated cases, and support for displaced persons to return.
At a press briefing held on Wednesday at the residence of the US Ambassador to Sierra Leone, Dr. Marah said that apart from the initial progress made, establishing the Committee of Moral Guarantors remains an obstacle.
He emphasized his party’s dependence on government cooperation and political will, as well as the support from partners, to address outstanding resolutions, noting how the APC recently presented an action plan for faster and easier coordination, monitoring, and reporting through a dedicated online platform.
Dr. Marah noted the progress made in the implementation of Resolution 3 dealing with the review of the 2023 elections, expressing hope for positive collaboration to reign in the remaining five months of the Committee’s work.
