Freetown, 10th November 2024 — The Electricity Distribution and Supply Authority (EDSA) announced on Sunday that a breakdown occurred in the 33kV network distribution line at Wilberforce, affecting several communities in Freetown and surrounding areas.
The incident, which took place in the early hours, has left many neighborhoods without power.
“The Authority, in collaboration with other relevant players, is currently investigating the cause of the breakdown,” EDSA stated in a press release issued Sunday morning.
The statement also emphasized that repairs will commence promptly after the issue is identified. “Once the problem is pinpointed, repairs and maintenance works will begin immediately,” EDSA assured.
For safety purposes, EDSA disclosed that the affected 33kV line would be fully disengaged during the repair process, which may lead to temporary outages in several areas, including Wilberforce, Regent, Lumley, Goderich, Malama, Wellington, Roportee, Jui, Hastings, and Waterloo.
“We would like to assure the public, especially those affected communities, that all efforts will be made to expedite the repair and maintenance process to restore power as quickly as possible,” EDSA said.
The Authority expressed its regret for any inconvenience the outage may cause and thanked residents for their patience.
For further updates, EDSA has advised residents to call their helpline at 672 or reach out through their official Facebook page.
