In a landmark judgment delivered in Freetown yesterday, the Court of Appeal upheld the findings of the Justice Biobele Commission of Inquiry (COI) report against the former President, Dr. Ernest Bai Koroma.
The court has directed the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) to investigate the ex-President for alleged abuse of office and executive authority, specifically related to the Sewa Ground Market Project with the National Social Security and Insurance Trust (NASSIT).
All four grounds of the COI Appeal by Dr. Ernest Bai Koroma were unsuccessful, leading to their dismissal.
The court ordered the appellant to pay $135,000 to the Government of Sierra Leone within seven days and bear a cost of three hundred million old Leones.
Presiding over the COI Appeal hearings, Justice Ansumana Ivan Sesay, along with Justices Alhaji Momoh Jah Steven and Adrian Fischer, made the decisive ruling.
The legal representation included lawyers Joseph Fitzgerald Kamara, Africanus Sorie Sesay, and Brima Koroma for the appellant, while Abigail Suwu Kendor and two other counsels represented the State.
