Waterloo, Sierra Leone – June 20, 2025 -Residents and traders at Four-Mile Park in Waterloo are raising alarm over a coffin containing a dead body that has been left unattended since yesterday morning, emitting a foul stench and sparking concerns over public health and decency.
According to eyewitness accounts, the coffin was reportedly dropped off by a tricycle operated by the local council, which allegedly encountered mechanical issues en route.
The driver is said to have promised to return but has not been seen since.
“A council tricycle dropped it off yesterday morning saying the machine had a problem, but since then nobody has come back,” a trader in the area told local reporter Ibraheeman Jalloh.
The situation took a disturbing turn last night when a group of young men reportedly attempted to remove the corpse and make away with the coffin. Their actions were interrupted, but the attempt has only heightened fears among the community.
Residents are now calling on the authorities to urgently intervene and remove the coffin, which has remained in the open despite growing concerns about the health risks and emotional distress it is causing.
As of this morning, the body remains at the site, with no official response yet from either the council or the police.
