This move by the APC leadership signifies a crucial step in the ongoing efforts to find common ground and resolve the electoral impasse that emerged after the June 24, 2023, general and presidential elections.
President Julius Maada Bio emerged victorious in the elections, representing the Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP), against Dr. Samura Kamara of the main opposition APC party.
International Mediation:
Today, on October 8, 2023, Sierra Leone welcomes the presence of international organizations, including the Commonwealth, African Union, ECOWAS, and the European Union, among others. Their arrival signals continued support for the dialogue between the APC party and the SLPP regime, to resolve the political challenges that have persisted since the elections.
Denial of Parliamentary Return:
Meanwhile, Honourable Abdul Kargbo, a prominent APC parliamentarian representing Constituency 077 Lungi, has refuted rumours circulating on social media. These rumours suggested that APC MPs were planning to return to Parliament on October 12, 2023, during the expected House opening. In an interview with an APC social media activist, Mallam, Honourable Abdul Kargbo clarified that there were no immediate plans for such a return.
The political landscape in Sierra Leone remains fluid as both the APC and SLPP engage in dialogue and efforts to navigate the post-election challenges. Stay tuned for further updates on this unfolding story.
