2023 BECE Results Release Update

Sierra Leone’s Deputy Minister of Information and Civic Education, Yusuf Keketoma Sandy, has announced that the Ministry of Basic and Senior Secondary School is collaborating with the West African Examination Council (WAEC) to expedite the release of the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) results.

In recent developments, the Ministry of Basic and Senior Secondary Education (MBSSE) had initially warned of potential delays in the release of the 2023 BECE results in Sierra Leone. The delay was attributed to numerous schools failing to submit their Continuous Assessment Scores (CASS).

To mitigate these delays, the Ministry issued a pressing plea to these schools, urging them to promptly submit their CASS to prevent any further postponement in the announcement of BECE results.

Just a month prior, Conrad Sacky, the Minister of Basic and Senior Secondary Education, had publicly stated that the 2023 BECE results were on schedule for release by the end of September.

The 2023 BECE, which commenced on Monday, July 24th, saw a total of 130,857 candidates registering for the examination. Among these candidates, 67,107 (51.28%) were girls, while 63,750 (48.72%) were boys.

The BECE holds significant importance as it marks the culmination of formal basic education in Sierra Leone and is administered by the West African Examinations Council (WAEC).
