Lungi, Sierra Leone – In a tragic incident that has shocked residents of Lungi and the broader Port Loko District, Alhaji Abdul Rahmadan “Omega” Sesay, a well-known All People’s Congress (APC) politician, and Mary Bangura, a student, were discovered unresponsive in a hotel room.
According to multiple local reports, the pair were found dead on Tuesday morning. Sesay, who had been actively involved in APC politics and was reportedly aspiring for the position of district council chairman in Port Loko, was last seen in good spirits watching the UEFA Champions League final.
Alhaji Omega Sesay was described by many as a friendly, popular figure in the Lungi area and across Port Loko District. He was known for his passion for football, particularly as an Arsenal supporter. Mary Bangura was identified as a student, though limited details about her background have been publicly released so far.
Police officers responded quickly to the scene. Early investigations reportedly found no immediate signs of foul play, though the Sierra Leone Police have not yet issued an official statement on the cause of death. Investigations remain ongoing to determine the full circumstances.
More recent reports citing autopsy findings suggest the possibility of strangulation and poisoning, according to family statements and local media. However, these details have not been independently confirmed by authorities at the time of this reporting.
The deaths have sparked widespread grief and discussion on social media, with many expressing shock at the sudden loss of two individuals in a single room. Tributes have poured in for Sesay, highlighting his community engagement and vibrant personality.
This incident comes amid heightened political activity in Sierra Leone, as parties prepare for future local and national contests. The APC, in particular, has a strong base in the north, including Port Loko District.
As investigations continue, authorities are expected to provide more clarity on the cause of death and any contributing factors.
The bodies have been transferred for further examination.
