Freetown, Sierra Leone – July 8, 2025 —
Statistics Sierra Leone (Stats SL) has issued a strong warning to the public over a fake recruitment notice circulating on social media, falsely claiming that the institution has launched an online application portal for hiring staff ahead of the upcoming Population and Housing Census.
In an official statement released today, Stats SL categorically dismissed the notice as “false and misleading,” clarifying that the agency has not opened any new recruitment portal.
According to Stats SL, the only official recruitment exercise took place between April 27 and May 15, 2025, when the institution advertised temporary positions for cartographic and census secretariat staff. That application window has since closed, and the recruitment process is already well advanced.
“We have not launched any new applications via any portal or by any other means,” the release emphasized.
Stats SL further reminded the public that any official announcements regarding future recruitment will be made through its official website ([www.statistics.sl](http://www.statistics.sl)), as well as its verified social media accounts on Facebook, X (formerly Twitter), TikTok, Instagram, and through reputable radio stations and newspapers.
The agency also cautioned citizens to beware of fraudulent schemes and reiterated that Stats SL does not request or accept any form of payment for employment opportunities.
“Any unauthorized links or announcements should be treated as scams designed to defraud the public,” the statement concluded.
Members of the public are encouraged to stay vigilant and report suspicious recruitment activity to the appropriate authorities.
