FREETOWN — The Government of Sierra Leone has officially declared Friday, June 6th, 2025, as a public holiday in observance of the Islamic festival of Eid-ul-Adha.
The announcement was made through a press release issued by the Office of the President at State House, Tower Hill, Freetown, on Thursday, June 5th, 2025.
Eid-ul-Adha, also known as the “Festival of Sacrifice,” is one of the most significant Islamic holidays, commemorating the willingness of Prophet Ibrahim (Abraham) to sacrifice his son in obedience to Allah’s command.
Muslims around the world celebrate the occasion with prayers, feasting, and the ritual sacrifice of livestock, symbolizing devotion and charity.
The holiday will be observed nationwide, and all public and private institutions are expected to comply with the declaration.
This annual celebration highlights the country’s respect for religious diversity and the contribution of the Muslim community to national unity and development.
