Freetown, Sierra Leone – The Sierra Leone Police (SLP) has arrested 130 people across the country in a major week-long operation targeting drug trafficking and abuse.
The arrests were made between October 20 and 26, 2025, as part of the force’s intensified efforts to curb the rising wave of narcotics-related crimes.
During the police weekly press briefing in Kingtom, CSP Michael J. K. Laggah of the Transnational Organised Crime Unit (TOCU) and AIG Dr. John Martin Senesie confirmed that the arrests followed a series of coordinated raids and checkpoints nationwide.
Among those taken into custody were:
* Kadiatu Barrie, apprehended in Makeni with Tramadol and Kush.
* Abdul Akim Bangura, arrested in Kambia with over 1,300 strips of Tramadol.
* Laurencia Kollie, a Guinean national, caught at Jendema with 91 pellets of suspected cocaine.
* Marie Keita and Ibrahim Kamara, both arrested in Makeni with large quantities of suspected Kush.
Out of 174 operations conducted, 51 suspects have already been charged to court, while others remain in detention as investigations continue.
Police say the crackdown is part of an ongoing nationwide campaign to dismantle drug networks and bring offenders to justice.
AIG Senesie called on the public to support law enforcement efforts, stressing that community cooperation remains crucial in the fight against drug trafficking in Sierra Leone.
