Sierra Leonean swimmer Joshua Wyse’s Olympic journey ended at the Paris 2024 Games. Wyse, 23, clocked 27.11 seconds in the men’s 50m freestyle, falling short of the top 16 times needed to advance to the semifinals.
Despite not progressing, Wyse improved on his previous time of 27.90 seconds set in Japan. However, he was unable to beat his personal best of 27.09 seconds, achieved earlier in Ghana.
The young swimmer’s performance highlights his growth and potential as he competes on the world stage.
Wyse is the second Sierra Leonean athletes whose journey at the 2024 Paris Olympics have been ended. Earlier this week, 17-year-old Mariama Koroma lost against 36-year-old Lien Chen-ling of Taiwan in a judo match. Lien secured a victory by submission, wining with an Ippon in just 1:06 seconds
