Freetown, Sierra Leone – February 3, 2026 – In a bold move to combat corruption, Sierra Leone’s Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has revealed plans to auction off a sprawling, unfinished residential property in Bo City, confiscated due to suspicions of unexplained wealth.
The announcement was made by ACC Commissioner Francis Ben Kaifala via a social media post, highlighting the commission’s ongoing efforts to recover illicitly acquired assets.
The property, described as a “mighty house,” is located approximately 500 yards from the Dohas Hotel in Bo, along the main road leading to Njala University Campus. Images shared by Kaifala depict a multi-story concrete structure with grand architectural features, including tall columns and arched windows, though it remains incomplete with visible scaffolding and construction materials scattered around the site.
According to details from local reports, the building is not yet fully finished, presenting an opportunity for potential buyers to complete the work.
In his post, Kaifala posed a rhetorical question to the public: “Udat buy am now go do finishing now. OR leh we make am Children’s hospital?” – translating from Krio to suggest either purchasing the house to finish it or repurposing it as a children’s hospital. This light-hearted yet pointed remark underscores the commission’s intent to redirect seized assets toward public benefit, sparking discussions online about community-oriented uses for recovered properties.
This auction is part of a broader ACC initiative targeting high-value assets linked to corruption. Recent reports indicate the commission is also preparing to sell other luxury properties, including a seaside residence, as part of court-ordered confiscations following unexplained wealth indictments.
Kaifala, a multi-award-winning lawyer and leader, has been vocal about such actions, emphasizing transparency and accountability in governance.
The ACC has not disclosed the identity of the original owner or the exact auction date, but the move aligns with Sierra Leone’s push for anti-corruption reforms under President Julius Maada Bio’s administration.
For more information on the auction, interested parties are advised to contact the ACC directly. Updates will be provided as details emerge.
