In the early hours of this morning, Sierra Leone Police personnel stationed at a checkpoint in Hill Station intercepted a vehicle carrying suspected kidnappers.
According to District Traffic Officer Regent, Alimamy Turay, police officers attempted to stop an unlicensed vehicle at the Regent checkpoint. However, the driver ignored the police signal and sped off. Officers pursued the vehicle using police motorcycles.
The chase ended at Obama Junction, where the driver abruptly stopped, opened the vehicle door, and fled along with three other individuals.
Upon inspecting the vehicle, police discovered a man, identified as John Jofe Koroma, in the backseat. Koroma’s hands and feet were bound, his head wrapped in clothing, and his mouth taped shut.
The vehicle is currently impounded at the police station, and Koroma is assisting the police with their investigation at the CID department in Regent.
Koroma later recounted that the alleged kidnappers had initially approached him under the pretense of purchasing his vehicle. During a test drive toward Tacugama, they overpowered him, assaulted him, and restrained him in the back of the car.
The police investigation into the incident is ongoing.
