Marubeni Company, a prominent global trade and investment firm headquartered in Japan, conducted a scoping mission in Sierra Leone from August 13 to 14, 2024.
Established in 1858, Marubeni operates across various business sectors and boasts approximately 135 branches worldwide. The company’s Ghana office, oversees operations in Sierra Leone and Liberia.
The General Manager, Yuichi Makita who is heading the delegation for this mission, expressed his appreciation for the hospitality and facilitation provided by the Sierra Leone Investment and Export Promotion Agency (SLIEPA).
He highlighted Marubeni’s interest in exploring investment opportunities in Sierra Leone, particularly in small hydropower projects, providing training facilities and other sectors with significant potential. The mission aims to assess the viability of these projects and further Marubeni’s investment footprint in the region.
SLIEPA team responded with gratitude for Marubeni’s visit and enthusiasm for potential investments.
The team underscored the government’s commitment to transformative projects through its “Big Five” game-changer initiatives and encouraged Marubeni to consider the ample investment opportunities available in the country.
SLIEPA assured the delegation of Sierra Leone’s readiness and eagerness to support business ventures.
To climax their mission, The SLIEPA team facilitated meetings between Marubeni and relevant Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs), as well as private sector establishments. These discussions focused on Sierra Leone’s investment portfolio and aimed to provide Marubeni with a comprehensive understanding of the country’s business environment and opportunities.
