Freetown, Sierra Leone – President Julius Maada Bio returned to Freetown on April 15, 2025, following his participation in the Antalya Diplomacy Forum in Türkiye.
Upon his return, he conducted a guided tour of the areas affected by the recent fire incident at State House, which occurred on Saturday, April 12, 2025.
During the tour, President Bio assessed the extent of the damage and expressed his appreciation for the coordinated efforts and effective response by the emergency teams in managing the incident.
He commended the swift action taken by the National Disaster Management Agency (NDMA), the Sierra Leone Fire Force, and other first responders in containing the fire and ensuring the safety of personnel and property.
The cause of the fire is currently under investigation by the relevant authorities. Preliminary assessments indicate that the fire was contained to specific sections of the building, minimizing disruption to government operations.
President Bio emphasized the importance of reviewing safety protocols and implementing measures to prevent similar incidents in the future.
He assured the public that the government is committed to maintaining the integrity and security of State House, a symbol of national governance.
