The Sierra Leone Police have confirmed the transfer of Police Sergeant M.S. Swaray (Force Number 14483) to the Transnational Organized Crime Unit (TOCU) in Freetown to face further investigation over alleged drug-related offenses.
Sergeant Swaray, who served as the Divisional Crime Officer at the Mile 91 Police Station in Tonkolili District, was arrested on Monday night after a team of anti-drug operatives from the Northern Regional Headquarters in Makeni conducted a raid at his residence inside the Mile 91 Police Barracks.
According to police sources, the raid was prompted by credible intelligence, leading to the discovery of quantities of Kush and Tramadol inside his personal quarters. The substances were seized as exhibits.
Sgt. Swaray, in his statement to investigators, claimed the drugs were case exhibits he had retrieved during an operation and taken home for “safekeeping.” However, senior police authorities found his explanation inadequate and inconsistent with standard exhibit handling procedures.
In line with ongoing internal reforms and a declared zero-tolerance approach to misconduct within the force, the Police leadership ordered his immediate transfer to TOCU in Freetown, where the matter will be handled under specialized criminal investigation protocols.
The Police say further updates will be provided as the investigation progresses.
