The National Sports Authority has responded to the tragic incident that occured at National Stadium on 21 July 2024.
In a press statement issued on Sunday, NSA noted that the perimeter fence of the National Stadium collapsed following a heavy downpour, resulting in the death of 38-year-old Sullaiman Bah.
The National Sports Authority noted that the affected section of the fence was part of the original structure completed in 1979 and not related to current rehabilitation efforts.
“We are deeply saddened by the loss of Sullaiman Bah and extend our heartfelt condolences to his family,” stated the NSA. “We urge everyone to stay safe during these wet days.”
Dr. Emmanuel Saffa Abdulai Esq, the head of the NSA, addressed the residents living near the incident site, known as ground zero.
“We strongly advise those living close to the collapsed fence to consider relocating temporarily. We are taking immediate steps to address and fix the issue,” he said.
The NSA assured the public that they are working diligently to prevent any further incidents.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with the bereaved family. May the soul of Sullaiman Bah rest in peace,” the statement concluded.
